Same sex â€Å"marriage† is harmful and wrong and must be opposed. This is tending to cause issues that occur in the world today. The law that was passed on same sex marriage in 2016 has affected the views of many people around the world. There are many reasons why I believe this is cruel and wrong. Some of the issues that are occurring in the world today would include violence, employment immigration, poverty, and health care. Lesbian, gay and transgender people, especially those of color, experience violence at disproportionately high rates compared to straight cisgender people. Sumerians coming from Mesopotamia (now known as southern Iraq) were the people most known because of their invention of writing. The writing known as cuneiform, using pictorial language to keep track of transactions. Ancient Sumer was made up of a dozen or so independent city states so it was not unified. Along with civilization came religion and social classes. Who were early humans praising? They were praising the Gods. As for social classes it was rulers and priests at the top then laborers came under them. The Sumerians constructed ziggurats. The ziggurats acted as a place of worshiping the Gods. But the downside was that not just anyone was allowed inside. It was only available to the worshipped or the priests. At this period in time female goddesses were still worshipped. This was due to the fact that a female can reproduce and give life. The art I chose reflected an offering and sort of gift for the female goddess Inanna. The two sculptures were said to be given as a gift for divine bringing, these types of statues often came with the name of the donor and the God or specific prayers to the deity of the owner’s behalf. Looking at the â€Å"two Statuettes of two worshipers† before analyzing anything on them a person must first look at the art piece with no emotion, basically say everything you see on the surface. The man on the left has big eyes, his hands together, he seems to have no shirt on, he’s wearing a skirt reaching a little under his knees, he has a long beard, standing on his tip toes, and is made of what looks to be light brown. On the right side there is a woman with big eyes as well, she has much smaller hands then the male, she is wearing a hat, she’s wearing a fairly long dress, she is holding something in her left hand, is standing on a platform with a stick off to the right, is on her tip toes and seems to be light brown like the male. Looking at them both the women seems to have smaller features such as her hands, platform and overall size. The male has more of his body exposed such as more of his lags and torso. As for the sculptures they are both sculptures in the round. This means the artwork can be seen 360 degrees. When civilized society came to be, artwork no longer (as much as before) was only about animals or things in the wild. The philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel believed that art was a memory of man’s view of nature. Art is a kind of flashback to the original human in nature. When civilization came in people started to sculpt and make art of themselves, just like â€Å"two Statuettes of two worshipers† because people were no longer leaders of nature but leaders of themselves. It states the statuettes are carved out of soft gypsum and inlaid with shell and black limestone. This was not known as a prized or sculptures of great meaning. These statues aren’t known to be that big. They range from under a foot to about thirty inches. The larger the statues simply meant how wealthy the person being portrayed in the statue really was. They have there arms crossed and are on their tip toes because they have to appear to be in a gesture of prayer because they were used for religious rites. The statuettes are not sculpted to be perfect but more rather body type and size. The exaggerated eyes are known to mean attentiveness necessary for fulfilling religious duty. From my point of view these statuettes demonstrate what males and females do in the society, their roles. I think the males’ larger features mean he is the laborer. He is in charge of going out for food and protecting his family. The smaller arms on the females suggests she is more fragile and is not meant to do hard labor. The males larger size does not necessarily mean superiority but it does mean he can be more powerful and dangerous. As for the big eyes it makes me feel scared of doing things because it seems their eyes are watching every move I make. It works like a police officer in a way because a person wouldn’t do bad things in front of a police officer. A person would feel like the police officer is watching and scare him/her into doing nothing bad, much like these statuettes. Long story short â€Å"Two Statuettes of two worshipers† were an example of man’s transition from the wild nomadic people moving place to place to a civilized society living in one place and being able to establish religion, social classes, and a home ultimately. There are so many different ways of acquiring the latest news nowadays because the twenty-first century likes to stay on top of things. From radio stations to television channels, to online websites to newspapers, citizens around the world can stay up to date with current news topics in the most convenient ways for them. Although there are so many different sources within categories such as television programs and newspapers, the two news sources I will be focusing on comparing and evaluating are news presented by CBS Evening News and NPR’s Hourly News Summary on June 6, 2012. There are many similarities and differences between these two news sources but both are popular amongst viewers and listeners alike. CBS Evening News is traditional half hour national news, and the National Public Radio is an advocacy type news source. The major difference between these two sources is that CBS is a television show that is viewable, and NPR is a radio program in which the audience can only listen to the news as opposed to seeing it. In terms of presenting reliable information and capturing the audience’s attention, I believe CBS Evening News is a more popular and dependable news source. CBS Evening News covered a series of news within around a twenty one minute time frame. In the beginning, there were short preview clips of the various news topics that were to be discussed in the segment. Scott Pelley was the main newsman for the show, but the segment went back and forth to various other newsmen in relation to each topic being discussed. In terms of access to reliable information, CBS news includes a lot of reliable sources, as shown in the clips in the news piece. They personally send people to interview first-hand sources such as governors (Dean Reynolds) and effected workers, retract information from political directors (John Dickerson), and capture video clips of protests at the actual site. What CBS did that kept viewers watching was they knew how to order their news in terms of when to present each topic during the segment. They left the most admirable, tear-jerking news to the end of the show while displaying short previews throughout the segment to keep the viewers watching the whole program. The widow of a war veteran who waited for her husband’s return all her life recently discovers where he is actually buried. The story of how she finally got to know the truth of her late husband’s bravery and sacrifice for the country definitely ended the show winning the hearts of viewers. National Public Radio’s major difference compared to CBS is that the news coverage is presented in the form of a radio program instead of a television show. Thus, the audience can only hear the news instead of people able to actually see the evidence. This is good for busy audiences who are on-the-go and want to listen to the news while they drive to work, school, etc. NPR also has some reliable resources as well, for they include their own interviews from some first-hand sources. The average length of each topic discussed on NPR is about four minutes. Between these two differing news sources, there are also several similarities as well. One similarity is that they present some of the same news topics, as expected because it is a popular discussion within that day. One of the common topics talked about in both sources was about Ray Bradbury. He recently passed away and both news sources covered how his numerous writings such as popular book Fahrenheit 451 reached and interested many readers. Both sources like to incorporate a wide range of news topics to adhere to a wider range of audiences. They not only focus on covering political news or only talk about how the economy is doing, but they expand it out to let people know about current news around the world like Japan and Afghanistan. The two sources also do some news coverage on well-known people including authors, scientists, war veterans, and celebrities. Depending on the audience’s preferences’, one might prefer CBS over NPR. Nowadays, because the media is so big, lots of people like to see what they are hearing as related to the cliche phrase, â€Å"seeing is believing. † More and more people are turning to television for their source of entertainment, leisure, news, and pastime. Just like arguments made in numerous controversial issues such as religion, people tend to not believe something unless there is sold proof that they can see themselves. Thus, many like to watch the news on television because news sources like CBS presents viewers with actual video footage, pictures, graphs, and faces of people who are speaking and being interviewed. It gives the audience a sense of assurance that the news is not just simply talk, and they have proof to show. Some may argue that NPR is just as good as a source as CBS even though it is not actually viewable. It is true that NPR is a great news source as well, for one can even go on the NPR website and look up news there. However, the fact that CBS is a television show simply appeals more to viewers because of the fact that people are able to watch the news instead of only being able to hear people speaking. Also, people may argue that NPR is a better news option because it is more mobile and can be listened to during a car ride. However, CBS’s news and show segments are all posted online on their website to be watched if one misses the show for a certain day. There are so many reliable ways in which people can go to in order to obtain up-to-date news information, wherever one may be. When looking and evaluating popular forms of news sources such as CBS and NPR, obvious similarities and differences are shown. Both are reliable and present news that are controversial, entertaining, and are a popular issue happening currently. Although both CBS and NPR are dependable sources, CBS is the better choice, for it allows viewers to see actual evidence and proof of what is being discussed.

Throughout literature a male character is usually blessed with the heroic role. The Yellow Wallpaper appears to contradict that statement. The narrator in this story tries to overcome and destroy women's oppression. She appears to be mentally unstable and so it is hard to distinguish her as a heroic figure. Although the narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper appears to be loosing her mind she is in actuality a magnificent hero in disguise. A hero must have an evil villain. A villain's main objective is to find the hero's weak spot and cause a lot of chaos in their life. The hero must stop this villain and make him cease his evil ways. In the story, John, the narrator's husband, a physician, appears to take the roll of the villain. He is not actually out to harm his wife but he will not use all of his resources to help her like a normal husband should. The husband just will not listen to his wife. She claimed that she was very sick but he thought otherwise. The narrator says: If a physician of high standing, and one's own husband, assures friends and relatives that there is really nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous depression-a slight hysterical tendency-what is one to do(1213)? The narrator believed that the house they were living in was a major contribution to her illness but her plea, was ignored. The narrator says I really was not gaining here and I wish he would take me away (1218). John's not listening to the narrator is an ideal characteristic of an evil villain. The real reason why she was sick was because something inside her wanted to get out. The evil villain husband appears to be holding our hero hostage, not letting her trapped soul escape. In the end the narrator rips down her wallpaper to offset her villain. The narrator says Now why should that man have fainted? But he did, and right across my path by the wall so that I had to creep over him every time (1222). In most cases a villain dies but this villain was shown who the boss is. A hero usually has a sidekick. A sidekick is the hero's friend that usually is taken hostage by the villain. The women in the wallpaper tends to fit this description. The narrator treats her as a friend that she watches every night. The narrator says I don't want anyone to get that women out at night but myself (1219). A sidekick's courage never surpasses that of the hero. The narrator seems to have a lot of courage when she is constantly speaking with her villainous husband without the slightest fear. But the sidekick appears to be afraid of John because she does not make her presence known unless he is asleep. So the villan holds her hostage in the wallpaper during the day. There is a good possibility that the woman is the narrator's sidekick. A hero must have an obstacle to overcome that hinders them and others. The narrator seems to be very sick but her husband John will not help her get better. He treats her with outdated medical treatments and he will not try newer ones. The narrator says I take phosphates or phosphites-whichever it is-and tonics, and air exercise and journeys, and I am absolutely forbidden to work until I am well again. Personally, I believe that congenial work, with excitement and change, would do me good (1213). If she could only have treated herself then she probably would have become more mentally stable. Though it seems the narrator is sick, her sickness is actually symbolic of her old fashioned ways of living as a women. To overcome this obstacle she becomes a new more modern woman. Another obstacle that the narrator had to overcome was her sidekick's confinement. She appeared to be trapped in the wallpaper as if it were a jail cell. But what about your essay? How does your essay score compare to everyone else? There's no percentile information for that in the score report. What’s an Average SAT Essay Score? First, a quick reminder about how SAT essays are scored: two graders score each SAT essay on a scale of 1-4 across three different dimensions: Reading Analysis Writing Summed together, this means your score can range between 2 and 8 for each area. There is no longer one single "total" SAT essay score, just Reading, Analysis, and Writing essay scores. Logically, it would seem that the average SAT essay score in each domain should be a 5 (since that's halfway between 2 and 8). The most recent SAT essay score data bears this out except when it comes to the Analysis dimension. The average SAT essay score for students graduating high school in 2018 was 5 out of 8 for Reading, 4 out of 8 for Analysis, and 5 out of 8 for Writing (source: CollegeBoard 2018 Total Group Report). To get a better idea of how frequently different essay scores were assigned, I created several different SAT essay score distribution charts that show how many students got each essay score for Reading, Analysis, and Writing. The data in this first chart shows the distribution of scores across all three dimensions for students who graduated high school in 2018. Distribution of SAT Essay Scores for the 2018 Graduating Class (data source for all graphs: CollegeBoard) From this chart, we can see that there's the same general trend for the numbers of students who got various Reading and Writing scores, while there's something quite different going on with Analysis scores. Let's separate these scores out into separate graphs, starting with Reading and Writing essay scores. Distribution of SAT Essay Reading Scores for the 2018 Graduating Class Distribution of SAT Essay Writing Scores for the 2018 Graduating Class If you compare the graphs for the distribution of Reading and Writing scores, you'll see a striking similarity between them when it comes to how many students got each score on Reading and Writing. There's a huge drop-off from the middle range of scores (4-6) to the upper and lower ends of the scale, and by far most students get a 6/8 in these areas. Because so many people score towards the middle on SAT Essay Reading and Writing scores, it's safe to say that if you score a 3 or below, your essay score is definitely lower than average; if you score a 5-6, your score is pretty average; and if you score a 7 or above, your score is significantly higher than average. Things are a little murkier when it comes to the Analysis essay scores. Let's take a look. Distribution of SAT Essay Analysis Scores for the 2018 Graduating Class In contrast to the trend for Reading and Writing scores, Analysis scores are heavily skewed toward the bottom of the scale. Even though the average Analysis score for 2018 was a 4 out of 8 (which is towards the middle), the Analysis score the most students received was 2 out of 8. Why did so many students score lower on Analysis, while still managing to do okay on Reading and Writing? The most likely answer is that the Analysis dimension is the part of the SAT essay task that is most different from what students have had to do on other standardized test essays. Instead of giving their opinion on the passage in the SAT essay prompt, students are asked to analyze the author's opinion. While this analysis is pretty straightforward once you manage to wrap your mind around it, it is very different from what students had to do on the old SAT essay (and what students are still asked to do on the ACT essay) and other standardized essays like DBQs. Because of the different trends for Analysis scores on the SAT essay, an Analysis score of a 6 or above puts you well above average; a score of 3-5 is solidly middle of the pack; and a score of 2 is low. If you did get a 2/8 Analysis score, the good news is that you can most likely boost it to at least a 4 (if not a 6 or higher) by reviewing these 15 SAT essay tips. When colleges look at your SAT scores, however, they usually won't look at your essay scores all by themselves. Most schools look at your overall SAT score first, your Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math scores next, and your essay scores last (if they care about your SAT essay scores at all). This leads into my next point... How Much Does My Essay Score Matter? Because your essay score no longer affects your Writing section score on the SAT, the importance of the SAT Essay has decreased significantly. More and more schools are dropping the requirement for students to submit SAT with Essay scores entirely, and schools that do require the SAT Essay often place much less importance on your essay score than on your other SAT scores. Still, there are highly competitive programs and schools that use SAT scores to place students in the appropriate level classes that require students to submit SAT Essay scores. For these kinds of schools, while your SAT essay score still won't matter as much as almost any other part of your application, you'll still want to aim for a high enough score that you're not immediately disqualified (or so that you don't get bumped down into remedial writing). So what's the average SAT essay score you should target for more competitive schools? Our advice is to aim for at least a 6 out of 8 on Reading, Analysis, and Writing. Higher essay scores (particularly on the Analysis dimension) are even better, but a 6 out of 8 shows that you have above-average writing skills on a standardized essay written at the end of a multi-hour test. In cases where admissions offices might wonder if your application's personal statement was a fluke, your SAT essay scores can confirm that you do have a certain level of writing ability. And the SAT essay rubric requirements to get a 6 out of 8 on each section are a pretty reasonable minimum standard for colleges to expect students to meet.
